PTI Karachi "Jalsa" Analysis

Imran Khan did a remarkable job by pulling an enormous crowd into the streets of Karachi and without even a bullet fired, well it was a set platform for PTI Leadership to put out a strong message for Karachi and Pakistan. But they seemed to fail in overall performance, it was a good crowd, well organised "Jalsa" and some immpressive individual speeches but none were for the party cause or its policies all of them were scattered.

Following Points that were observed by many like Talat Hussain and other neutral critics:

1) It was one of the Huge "Jalsa" in Karachi's history.

2) Struggle btw Shah Mehmood Qureshi & Javed Hashmi was there ......... which will destroy party from inside out ......

3) As new Lotas are increasing old Party loyals are of less importance day by day ........... and soon it will become PML-Q(Part-II)

4) Debates were not convincing ........... they are more like Lectures ....... Be-Maqsad Taqareer hain ............... No combine massage was send ......... they were individuals debates fighting for power ...

5) Media coverage was from 7AM to 9PM .............. which shows media biased-ness .........

6) It was fixed with MQM and they didnt only supported the rally but they participated quitely as Imran Begged Altaf Bhai .......

‎7) No Plan was announced ...........

8) No Polices are present with Imran Khan .........

9) No comprehensive slogan was there .........

10) His debate was spread all over it was not to the point ........

11) Examples he quoted were irrelevant ..........

12) He was unable to use the Platform that he could have used ......

13) New inductions are from Punjab mostly ........... not all over Pakistan ........ he didnt have team from all over .......... its politically imbalanced team .............

Spot Fixing Complete Verdict.

Full copy of the spot-fixing verdict:

1. The gravamen of the offences committed by all four of you is the corruption in which you engaged in a pastime, the very name of which used to be associated with fair dealing on the sporting field. It's not cricket was an adage. It is the insidious effect of your actions on professional cricket and the followers of it which make the offences so serious. The image and integrity of what was once a game, but is now a business is damaged in the eyes of all, including the many youngsters who regarded three of you as heroes and would have given their eye teeth to play at the levels and with the skill that you had. You procured the bowling of 3 no balls for money, to the detriment of your national cricket team, with the object of enabling others to cheat at gambling. Now, whenever people look back on a surprising event in a game or a surprising result or whenever in the future there are surprising events or results, followers of the game who have paid good money to watch it live or to watch it on TV, in the shape of licence money or TV subscriptions, will be led to wonder whether there has been a fix and whether what they have been watching is a genuine contest between bat and ball. What ought to be honest sporting competition may not be such at all.

2. In Pakistan, where cricket is the national sport, the ordinary follower of the national team feels betrayed by your activities, as do your fellow countrymen in this country. You Butt, Asif and Amir have let down all your supporters and all followers of the game, whether suborned by you, Majeed, or more than willing co- conspirators. Whilst those involved in unlawful betting in this country where the market is regulated, may not deserve much sympathy, and the evidence was that betting on no balls only occurred in unlawful markets, mostly abroad, where betting on cricket may not be allowed at all, the effect of what you were seeking to do was to defraud bookmakers, whether licensed or unlicensed and whether carrying out lawful or unlawful bookmaking in the country in question, where public policy may differ from this country. If other fixes were to be done on less esoteric events than no balls, such as brackets, then it is certain that they would affect lawful betting. Your motive was greed, despite the high legitimate rewards available in earnings and prize money.

3. I bear in mind that this was a sting by the News Of The World (NOTW), but that does not render your culpability any the less, once it is recognised that you were involved in discussing such activities outside the scope of the sting, as it is clear that you Majeed, Butt and Amir were. Though no cheating bets were placed by reason of the information given to the journalist, the intention was that they should be and if information was supplied to others, as it was, that could only have been for one purpose.

4. These offences, regardless of pleas, are so serious that only a sentence of imprisonment will suffice to mark the nature of the crimes and to deter any other cricketer, agent or anyone else who considers corrupt activity of this kind, with its hugely detrimental impact on the lives of many who look to find good honest entertainment and good-hearted enjoyment from following an honest, albeit professional sport.

Mazhar Majeed

5. You have pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy:

5.1. first – conspiracy corruptly to give Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammed Amir money as an inducement to identify in advance occasions during the Test Match series between Pakistan and England when they would play in a specified manner.

5.2. Secondly – conspiracy to do acts to enable others to cheat at gambling by identifying those occasions to others including the NOTW journalist so that those individuals you thought were part of his betting syndicate could win money by betting on the occurrence of those events.

6. In your basis of plea, you asserted that your actions related solely to the arrangement of the bowling of no balls and that some of what you said to the journalist with regard to previous spot or match fixing was untrue and merely designed to impress him and attract his confidence. I refused to accept that basis of plea.

7. In consequence I gave you the opportunity to give evidence in a Newton hearing on these issues, but you have since accepted that your part in the conspiracy covered not just the no balls actually bowled at Lords but wider events at Lords and the Oval.

8. Whilst others have described you as a blagger and your own counsel now says, along with other defendants, that much of what you said to the Journalist is not to be believed, the fact remains that, in your meetings with him, you spoke of your involvement in spot fixing and match fixing and of the players you managed in the Pakistan team and your ability to use the three players before me in such activities, naming others also who are not before the court. You said it had been going on for years. The fact that of the £150,000 that you actually received, only £2500 in marked notes was found in Butt’s possession and £1500 in Amir’s possession, together with the evidence of payment of £13,000 into Butt’s bank account and some £23,000 into your company’s accounts, suggests that you took the lion’s share of the cash paid by the journalist, notwithstanding what, through your counsel, you have now said about its distribution. Moreover, what the court has mostly been concerned with here- the arrangement of three no balls- is only part of the corrupt activities in which you have been involved.

9. On the evidence, you were not only responsible for arranging with Salman Butt, and directly or indirectly with Amir and Asif, for the 3 specified no balls in the Lord’s test which were actually bowled, (2 on the 26th and one on the 27th August2011 but you also agreed with Salman Butt:

9.1. for Salman Butt to bat out a maiden over at the Oval test match on 21 August on the first full over that he faced that day.

9.2. for a second no ball to be bowled by Amir on 26th August, when he was first to bowl round the wicket, which did not occur that day, and was then replaced by agreement that evening by the no ball actually bowled by him on the third ball of the third full over that he bowled on 27 August . You agreed this with Salman Butt and either directly or indirectly with Amir.

10. You told the journalist that you had been fixing things with the Pakistani team for about two and a half years, though your counsel now says that the suggestion of spot fixing first came up in June 2009. I can give little credence to anything said by your counsel on your instructions to this court and approach what you said to the Journalist with more than a pinch of sale, as it was sales talk to gain his confidence to part with money, of which you were short at the time.

11. What is clear however is that you were involved in fixing not only with the journalist but with others during the period covered by the Indictment. Whether or not what this court has had to consider is just the tip of an iceberg, is not for me to say and lies beyond the scope of the evidence I have heard, but, even allowing for your “sales talk” to the journalist, I am sure that there was an element of truth in what you said about past fixing.

11.1. You were paid £150,000 for information given and to be given in the future.

11.2. It was agreed that the journalist would pay you £10,000 for each no ball identified to him in advance – or at least £20,000 for 3 no balls, of which he paid £10,000. Bets could be placed on these no balls in unlawful markets, mostly abroad, based on inside advance knowledge of what was going to happen.

11.3. It was agreed that he would pay £150,000 as a deposit (of which he paid £140,000) from which you would draw down for information to be given to him in respect of brackets – the number of runs to be scored or wickets taken (or rather runs or wickets given away) in a specified number of overs and information about the scoring rate involved, on which bets could be placed, in both lawful and unlawful markets.

11.4. It is clear from the telephone schedules that you were in touch with contacts in India and Dubai and were passing on information relating to the Oval and Lord’s test matches in relation to gambling activity there. I find that this was all part of your corrupt activity because you were intent on passing the same information about fixed events to different people so they could place bets based on them in different markets- Dubai, India, and as you thought, the Far East where the journalist said his punters were involved. There is evidence of a telephone call, conducted in the presence of the journalist where there was discussion of $1m changing hands. You told the journalist that it would cost £50-80,000 to fix a bracket, £400,000 to fix a 20/20 match result, anything between £300,000-£450,000 to fix a one day international and £1m to fix a test match. The fact that you could talk in these terms to someone who was, as you thought, prepared to put up that sort of money, lends credence to your knowledge or involvement in matters of that kind and your confidence in your ability to do so for him. You were not seeking simply to con him out of money but to start a long term corrupt relationship with future exchanges of money for information given, in the same way as you must have made arrangements with your Dubai and Indian contacts. On your say-so, individuals in India were making £40,000-£50,000 on each identified no ball. On three no balls therefore the bookmakers stood to lose £150,000 on each bet by a cheating punter.

12. Your position as manager to half a dozen members of the Pakistan team and your close friendship with Salman Butt, who became the captain on July 16th 2010, meant that you and he together were in a position to influence other players in the team as you did. Whereas the defendant players present have already been the subject of an ICC arbitration and have suffered bans which significantly affect their cricket playing careers and their future earnings, which I will bear in mind when I come to sentence them, you stand alone as a non player, who decided, according to an email exchange with your brother in February 2010, to make as much money as you could from the game of cricket- by corrupting those involved.

13. I take into account everything said on your behalf and the character references produced which speak well of you as a good family man and a man who has made significant contributions to your local community.

14. You were agent of the players and to that extent were trusted by them, and obtained for them legitimate contracts of sponsorship as well as being the source of illegitimate earnings for them. It was through Salman Butt that your influence over them was largely gained and you and he were the architects of the fixing of which the court has heard, procuring the other two defendants to do what they did.

15. I give you full credit for your plea, which the Prosecution accepts was entered at the first effective opportunity.

16. I have considered the guidelines for any analogous offences such as fraud on insurers and the sums of money involved here. You, of the four defendants, gained the most from these offences-it would appear, well over £100,000, quite apart from the $1m referred to in the phone call, which may or may not ever have materialised. Notional punters stood to gain sums in excess of £150,000 from cheating when gambling on 3 no balls and more in respect of a maiden over. It is hard to assess the amounts of money of which persons might have been but were not defrauded in the gambling industry, by virtue of information given to the journalist and to say whether or not any money was made as a result of the information given to the Indian and Dubai contacts, of which there is no evidence. The extent of your gain remains unclear.

17. There is no distinction to be made in respect of the two charges you face and the sentences I impose will be concurrent sentences in respect of each, limited to the period of the indictment, but bearing in mind the fact that the journalist’ sting was not an isolated event.

18. If you had not pleaded guilty the sentence would have been 4 years on each count. In the light of your plea, the sentence on each count, to run concurrently is one of 2 years and 8 months.

Salman Butt

19. You have been convicted by the jury on two counts:

19.1. First - conspiracy to accept corrupt payments for identifying in advance occasions when 3 no balls would be bowled in the Test match at Lords on 26 and 27 August last year and procuring the bowling of those no balls by your two fast bowlers, Amir and Asif.

19.2. Secondly – conspiracy to do the same acts in order to enable others to cheat at gambling.

19.3. I sentence you for matters covered by the narrowed indictment alone, relating to the no balls in the Lord’s test match, but I cannot ignore the fact that these were not isolated incidents.

20. It is clear to me that you were the orchestrator of this activity, as you had to be, as Captain, in arranging for these bowlers to be bowling the overs which were identified in advance to Majeed and which he identified to the NOTW journalist. You were a natural captain, picked out as such from the age of 17 for national teams, and had the advantage of a good education. You were a man of status. As I have already said, you bear the major responsibility for the corrupt activities, along with Majeed. The evidence of the text exchange between you and Majeed in the West Indies in May 2010 shows your involvement in such activities outside the scope of the period covered by the indictment.

21. I sentence you in respect of the no balls bowled at Lords alone but bear in mind your prior agreement in respect of the maiden over at the Oval, of which telephone evidence was heard, as well as the West Indies exchanges.

22. Because of your leadership status, your direct involvement with Majeed and your key role in directing the corrupt activities, you are more culpable than either of your two bowlers.

23. I consider that you were responsible for involving Amir in the corruption – an 18 year old from a poverty stricken village background, very different to your own privileged one, who, whilst a very talented bowler, would be inclined to do what his senior players and particularly his captain told him, especially when told there was money in it for him and this was part of the common culture. For an impressionable youngster, not long in the team to stand out against the blandishments of his captain would have been hard. It appears that the corruption may have been more widespread than the defendants here before me, and may have permeated the team in earlier days, though I have seen no direct evidence of that. If that is the case, you, as Captain, perpetuated such an atmosphere of corruption and would be responsible for it and for the desire to use Majeed and his contacts to make money for yourself and others in the team.

24. In the words you used to the jury- what you did was a terrible thing- it is bad for the game of cricket, bad for the country and shows the character of the man involved. Not only were you involved but you involved others and abused your position as captain and leader in doing so, bringing to bear your considerable influence on Amir at the very least.

25. I have taken account of all the matters I referred to when sentencing Majeed and the difficulties in assessing the amounts of money of which persons might have been defrauded, as well as the gain to you from what you did, which remains unclear.

26. You do not have the advantage of a plea. You have been subjected to a ban on playing cricket for 10 years, of which 5 are suspended. You will be 31 or so, when the active part of that ban comes to an end and you will have lost some of the best years of a batsman’s life as well as the years of captaincy. Your playing career may well be at an end for all practical purposes.

27. I bear in mind all that has been said on your behalf and the domestic circumstances outlined to me. You have been very good to your family and you have now a second child, born yesterday to your wife in Pakistan. I have well in mind the financial support you have given to your family and all the other matters raised in the letters produced to the court.

28. I take fully into account the ICC ban and the effect it has on you, which in itself is a considerable punishment for a man in your position. This enables me to take a more lenient course, than I otherwise might. But for that ban, the sentence would have been of the same order as that which I would have imposed on Majeed if he had not pleaded guilty. You do not have the benefit of a plea but the effect of the ban on you is such that I can reduce the sentence I would otherwise have imposed to 30 months imprisonment.

Mohammed Asif

29. You have been convicted of the same 2 offences as your captain Salman Butt. You do not have the benefit of a plea but your culpability is less than his, both because of his key role as captain and orchestrator along with Majeed and because your participation in this conspiracy was limited to the bowling of one no ball.

30. Whilst no marked NOTW money was found in your possession, the jury have found that you conspired to accept money in the same way as your captain. You bowled a no ball in order to obtain payment and in order to assist others to cheat at gambling. If it was £10,000 for a no ball, you would have got a share of that sum, allowing for a cut for Salman Butt and Majeed. The sums of money of which others could have been defrauded, for the reasons I have already given cannot be accurately calculated.

31. There is no evidence of any prior involvement on your part in such activities but it is clear that Majeed had every confidence in you playing your part when identifying the no ball that you would bowl on the 26th August. It is hard to see how this could be an isolated occurrence for you either.

32. I sentence you in respect of your agreement to bowl that no ball, again bearing in mind all the factors I have mentioned before in sentencing today.

33. I take account of all that is said on your behalf and in particular I bear in mind the 7 year ICC ban imposed last year, of which 2 years are suspended, and its effect on your career as a fast bowler now aged 28, which means that your cricketing career is effectively over. This in itself is a considerable punishment for a man in your position. This enables me to take a more lenient course, than I otherwise might. That is the punishment imposed by the cricket authorities but these crimes of which you have been convicted require that a sentence be imposed which marks them for what they are and acts as a deterrent for any future cricketers who may be tempted.

34. In your case there will be concurrent sentences of 1 year’s imprisonment on each count.

Mohammed Amir

35. You have pleaded guilty to the same two offences as those of which Asif has been convicted. I give you full credit for that plea, which the Prosecution accepts was entered at the first real opportunity. Following the ICC arbitration in Doha, where you contested the allegations, you made it clear to the cricket authorities that you accepted your responsibility for what you had done, despite the situation in which you found yourself where, it seems, activity such as this was widespread. It took courage to do so, as appears from the information I have been given about pressures you faced.

36. You pleaded on a basis which I refused to accept- namely that your only involvement in spot fixing was at Lords on 26th and 27th August and that you only became involved as a result of pressure (not amounting to physical threats) and influence to the effect that if you did not become involved, it would have serious professional implications for your future career.

37. I therefore gave you the opportunity of a Newton hearing but you decided not to give evidence of the pressure to which your basis of plea referred. You have referred, in material presented to the court, to threats to yourself and your family, saying that there are significant limits to what you can say in public. The reality of those threats and the strength of the underworld influences who control unlawful betting abroad is shown by the supporting evidence in the bundle of documents, including materials from the Anti Corruption and Security Unit of the ICC.

38. You agreed to bowl 2 no balls on the 26th August, of which you bowled one, before the rain set in and then agreed that evening to bowl another on 27th, which you duly did. They were the largest infringements of the front foot rule seen by experienced test cricket observers. The Umpire could not have missed them.

39. I take into account all the factors I have already mentioned when sentencing Asif and all that has been said on your behalf.

40. You come from a village background where life has been hard and you struggled with serious back problems to reach the peak you did when bowling for Pakistan. Compared with others, you were unsophisticated, uneducated and impressionable. You were only 18 at the time and readily leant on by others. I am clear that you bear less responsibility than your captain who influenced you in the manner to which I have earlier referred.

41. But you agreed to do this for money and £1500 of NOTW marked money was found in your possession.

42. Moreover the fact remains, that there is evidence, in the shape of texts and telephone calls with a Pakistani number of your involvement in discussions about fixing brackets at the Oval during the period of the indictment, though there is no evidence that such fixing actually occurred. That discussion did not relate to Majeed. The 2 no balls you actually bowled cannot be seen in isolation from this prior discussion.

43. I take account also of the 5 year ICC ban imposed last year, and its effect on your career as a fast bowler now aged 19, which will create problems for you in returning to play when the ban expires. That is the punishment imposed by the cricket authorities but these crimes of which you have been convicted require that a sentence be imposed which marks them for what they are and acts as a deterrent for any future cricketers who may be tempted, notwithstanding the mitigation which I have heard.

44. If you had not pleaded guilty you would have received concurrent sentences of 9 months' imprisonment on each offence. As you did plead the sentence will be 6 months in each case.

45. Each of you will serve half the time imposed in custody and then you will be released on licence. If you breach your licence or commit any other offence, you may be brought back to serve the remainder of your sentence. Your counsel will explain the effect of this to you, if you do not understand.

46. I make no orders for compensation as I consider that the NOTW got what it bargained for when paying the £150,000 in question.

47. I order each of the defendants to make the following contributions towards the costs of the Prosecution:

47.1. Amir £9,389 - payable forthwith as it is in the possession of the police

47.2. Asif £8,120 -ditto

47.3. Butt £30,937 - ditto

47.4. Majeed £56,554 - payable within 6 months of today’s date.

48. The transcript of my sentencing remarks can be obtained from the judicial website.

49. Thanks to Counsel and Press.

P-N-S Mehran ??

After Abottabad Second major event in the field of Terrorism in Pakistan, PNS Mehran base attack. It was established in 1970's and is the oldest base to my knowledge.

Well oldest and unsecured Base to be precise, today we are celebrating the victory of Pak Navay Jawans and the paying great respect to the Martyrs. But we are not getting the right answers to the same old Questions so much confusion why our Politicians and agencies get so much dependent and confused when it comes to the facts of the whole story. As Rehman Malik told press that there were 6 people involved in the attack then why the hell there are 12 men in FIR??

Ok SRM is the big gun so we believe him there were only 6 men. Now what happened is, these 6 men entered  the Base from Check Post # 6 they cut the wire installed on wall and jumped in, where they were the heroes of Punjabi Movie. The wires of the CCTV camera cut, fired Rocket Launchers, moved around the Base freely  and held back the whole Army of a nation for 14-16 Hours BRAVO! And two of them managed to escape.

What a common man thinks of the situation:
Our Radars Faulty, Other Nation Come and do what ever they want and get immunity, Our army not capable of handling 6 men BLAH! BLAH!

Why our army getting 70% of the budget and yet Failing in holding back Militant activities, when ever something happens we think for its solution why are we so Reactive instead of Proactive.

Current Affairs.

Current Affairs, well what’s current is it the thing that gives you jolts or is it the thing that gives you awareness . These days in Pakistan we have it both ways. Knowledge that gives you jolts of 1000KV.

There are so many good and bad things happening simultaneously but why the fuck we always highlight the bad things around us, ok one view is that we learn from past so its compulsory to highlight a bad news so concern authorities are well aware of its consequences, but  as we don’t learn from the bad things but we divide as a nation by having different views like some supporting and some opposing, our leader fight ON AIR to prove how illiterate they are.

Our Media is Fucking crazy about getting the gossip going, they are playing a role of “Chalako Massi”, start a fight and let the “Jahil” fight for the cause they don’t even support or they don’t know what they are fighting for. “Dharna ” and “Violence” is the only solution that’s left in our country. We are fighting someone’s else’s war, but media has made it our war now we have to kill our own people. It’s the perfect example of what Hazrat Muhammad P.B.U.H said “The murderer won’t know why he killed, Victim will never know why he was killed”.
Why the fuck to discuss something that you don’t thing is imposable on you or you can’t do it the way you tell everyone else to do. We have hundreds of Journalists, Columnists, Analysts and our Leaders. Who will come up with a beautiful story of how to do things the right way, if you ever find them in the same situation you will find them doing exactly the opposite of what they told you to do.

Why this double standard ?? Why can’t we just think for our Country as a Nation?? Where is the Nation for which Quaid-e-Azam and our ancestors fought for?? Where are the leaders of Muslim world?? Why are we dependent yet being independent?? Why are we like this?? Why so much Negativity??

One answer to all these questions is that we lack:
  1. Love for Humanity.
  2. Tolerance .
  3. Care for others.
  4. Proper Education .

I don’t know when we are going to understand this, we are falling apart due to these fucking issues we should stand up as a Nation to support what’s rite and condemn that’s wrong. I leave you with a phrase, we should seriously think about it and should be ashamed of our image, so work hard to improve our image as a nation.

“Pakistan is a Nation that can sell their Mothers for Money”.

LUMS Annual Play "The Mouse Trap"

Welcome to Monkswell Manor.
The Guest House, Owned by the newly married couple, Mr. & Mrs.Ralston, provides shelter from the heavy snow to four expected guests:

The colorful Mr. Wren.
The increddible Mrs. Boyel.
The retired Major Metcalf.
The sarcastic Miss Casewell.
The unexpected shaddy visitor Mr. Paravicini.

The radio, only source of the news of the outside world, provides constant reminder of a crime that took place at twenty-four Culver street, Paddington. The murder of Mrs. Maureen Lyon.

The arrivaal of the intriguing Sergent Trotter unveils the risk of greater danger to the lives of two of the seven people residing at Monkswell Manor. Why? Because there were Three Blind Mice.

With the weather making it impossible for the murderer to reach Monkswell Manor, the guesthouse seems to be a safe heaven. But is it ? Or is the killer one of them ? All the peculiar character, it seems, have a secret, and one of them, has a secret wepon.

Anum Kamran plays Mollie Ralston, the perfect hostess, who is sure of her household. But, like every other character in the play, there is just something a bit off about her.

Asser Malik is Paravicini, The perfect Stranger. He has travelled all the way from Italy and is the uninvited, unwelcome guest. His aloofness adds to his mysterious aura and his character, in turn, definitely adds to the mystique of the play.

Yasin Asad plays Sergeant trotter, a detective by profession. The Sergeant is cheerful and loud and is present at the guest house for very good reason. Head strong and vigilant.

Saad Akbar is the guest with  English accent. He plays Major Metcalf, a retired English military man in his mid fifties. The Major seems organised and disciplined, a mark left behind by his military past.

Zain Saeed's role is that of Christopher Wern, Your typical pseudo-intellect. His hyperactive and flamboyant persona sets him apart from the rest.

Sana Warraich plays Mrs. Boyle. Always in a temper, she remains unappeased with everything her hosts do. Also, it does not take long to realize that Mrs. Boyle does not get along very well with other guests.

Ayesha Mysorewala is seen in the rather aggressive and masculine role of Miss Casewell. A bitter woman, with violent tendencies, she mocks at all the other characters.

Daniyal Ahmed plays the part of Mr. Giles Raltson, co-host and husband of Mollie Ralston. The actor describes himself as a typical sycophantic husband.

May Day just another Holiday.

May-Day Salute to Laborers all around the world.

"Hum mehnat kash jag waalon se jab apna hissa maangein ge
ik khet nahin ik dais nahin hum saari duniya maangein ge!"

History:
The earliest May Day celebrations appeared in pre-Christian times, with the festival of Flora, the Roman Goddess of flowers, and the Walpurgis Night celebrations of the Germanic countries. It is also associated with the Gaelic Beltane. Many pagan celebrations were abandoned or Christianized during the process of conversion in Europe. A more secular version of May Day continues to be observed in Europe and America. In this form, May Day may be best known for its tradition of dancing the Maypole and crowning of the Queen of May. Various Neopagan groups celebrate reconstructed (to varying degrees) versions of these customs on May the 1st. The day was a traditional summer holiday in many pre-Christian European pagan cultures. While February 1 was the first day of Spring, May 1 was the first day of summer; hence, the summer solstice on June 25 (now June 21) was Midsummer. In the Roman Catholic tradition, May is observed as Mary's month, and in these circles May Day is usually a celebration of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In this connection, in works of art, school skits, and so forth, Mary's head will often be adorned with flowers in a May crowning. Fading in popularity since the late 20th century is the giving of "May baskets," small baskets of sweets and/or flowers, usually left anonymously on neighbours' doorsteps.

May Day Pakistan:
1st May is observed as Labour day all around the world. But sadly in Pakistan its just another holiday observed by rich and middle-class, without searching the solution for the betterment of the labourers. As labour in Pakistan is living in poverty and are sometimes forced to do inhumane things such as selling their daughters and body organs. People should try to emphasis on the conditions and sufferings of the poor and labour. They should be given some sort of incentive and free education for their childeren. Some rallies were held in Lahore and concerts were organized, did it helped the poor labourers to fill their bellies certainly NOT.

Labour day n Allam Iqbal:::
"Tu Qadir-o-Adil hai magar Tairay Jahan mae,
hein taalkh bohat banda-e-mazdoor kay auqat."

OBL's Killed in Abbotabad

Oh! dear at last a quest that took over $1 Trillion comes to an end, is it really the end or a beginning to another era. We will have to wait and see in the next few weeks. Now there are many questions popping in every bodies minds:

Q: Is he really dead?
A: well USA admits that he was living in the same compound for last 2 Years or so, they have confirmed the death of OBL and have got the body in their custody. But still some believe its not his photo being shown on News Channels.

(This picture is not yet confirmed by the any authentic source)

Q: Why Pakistan Intel was not informed?
A: well to me they didn't want info to be leaked by any sources or means so they kept it a top secret but eventually it paid off.

Q: Why Pakistan didn't Break the news at first place??
A: Pakistan is afraid of the retaliation, and the response of the hardcore Mullah's. So the compound was burnt and bulldozed (Source- person living there)

As mentioned by Nusrat Javed in his Tweet:
"The whole compound has been bulldozed says a person living in the area."

Q:Will Drones stop now?
A: Drones were not for hunting OBL but all the terrorist in the country, so i don't think they will stop. we will have to wait and see.

Q: What Taliban's will do now?
A: First of all i think there will be less number of terrorists in the region after this development, but on the other hand they can still prove there point and hit back harder then we are thinking. As securities at USA Consulates have been increased.

As mentioned by Shaheryar Mirza in His Tweets:
"Heavy Checking and police patrolling outside US consulate #Karachi"

"Outside US consulate in #Karachi ......police and rangers arriving by the dozen. #Pakistan #oblisdead"

Q: Is Pakistan in more danger then before?
A: I hope not, but according to the current situation it might be. we have to be calm and be aware of the surroundings and should report any disturbance or suspicious activity. We should be prepared for the worse and yet hope for the best.

Q: Why his body was disposed of so Quickly??
A: well to my shock too why the hell to demolish the building and burn it, now body dumped at sea. Makes no sense to me, one reason could be the followers will make a shrine out of it and will keep worshiping there so dump it somewhere where they cant reach. Other ambiguity is that what if its a fake story and soon we hear another video of him saying "i am fine strike back dudes".

Twitter community is tweeting about the issue since morning and yet they don't approve of any Picture or words so its all un-authentic. Some of them are mentioned below with no names.

"Foreign Office has been asked to issue the statement. Why. Poor babus have nothing to do with it. Someone else should move forward."

"Tehrik e Taliban sticking by their claim that Osama bin Laden is safe. Typical tactics from them. The world is waiting for proof."

"Any statements from Saudi Arabia on Osama bin Laden? Let's not forget he was Saudi Arabian and so are many of his funders.#oblisdead"
"Not only could an invasion not kill or capture Osama bin Laden, something a small operation achieved, but surely more effective than drones."

"Ghazi was the base from which the whole operation was launched and preparations for it were on for one week."

"Objectively speaking, nothing's about to change is it?"

"I'm hearing the Last of the Mohican's theme with Obama shouting NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO I WILL FIND YOU"
" It is disturbing that we have not heard any official statement from Presidency, PM house or from Military"

"Bin Laden has already been buried at sea - CNN"
"Its a Mad Fest at the moment-The real story will unfold in the following days..Wait and Watch."

Cricket Tournament at WorldCall

On 19 April, 2011 i received an e-mail from Director HR, it was announcement of Cricket Tournament being held in WorldCall. Told all my technicians that we have an opportunity to show our talent, and eight people including me were ready to represent our department. Two teams were supposed to be announced so four of us made it in the team, i was personally somewhat satisfied with the decision.

As there is a staff of 125 in Operations HFC, we were not being given the fair amount of cut so we decided to make our own team, some of the Engineers and Assistants were also in support of this. Team of 15 was formulated under my captaincy, i talked to my Team Lead regarding the situation, he was not that interested in the whole thing but supported me. Then on 22 April, 2011 went to my GM to finalize things unfortunately he was in a meeting with directors. Meanwhile trials for selection were held and all other departments senior and junior staff was present there, sharp 4:30 pm. But to my shock none of the other engineers except me was there, our seniors were also out of the picture. It was a little disappointing, so i didn't participated in Trials regardless being asked to bowl several times. Came back to office and went to see my GM, he is really a nice guy and listens to my complain. He told me that our quota of two teams were cut down to one by HR so we have to scrutinize the best of 11, but he assured me of my selection. I was happy on representing my department but on the other hand i was disappointed by the seniors of my department. He agreed on my point and asked my Team Lead that he should have gone to the Trials for support of HFC Operations.

No other player of my area were selected so they all suggested me to boycott also. Anyways i planned to practice at night every day to improve my line and length, as i was being selected as spin bowler. The practice started on 22 April, 2011 at 11:50 pm. I bowled about eight overs and my feet started hurting, we decided to play every day at 4:00 pm. But couldn't play in the evening due to workload, so practiced at night on 23 April, 2011.

And then we got another mail regarding the schedule of the matches, passes and food coupons. 30 April,2011 was the big day so we had a final team meeting to decide all the matters., we decided to play last practice match on 28 April, 2011. At first we didn't managed to get a grip on ground eventually it was sorted out and we played for 3-4 hours it was a tiring practice which didn't involved me or Ahsan our opening batsman. then it was declared to rest for Friday and be hopeful, relaxed and aggressive on the big day.

On 30 April,2011 i got up early despite i was not feeling well. I went to the PAF ground to support my team and hoping to play in the next match. i arrived there and it was beautifully organised by the HR Team. there were  family section, Team Tents, Food Stalls and kids playing area. Suddenly a voice struck my ear Mustanser (our captain)  arranging his field and batting team requires 4 runs on 3 balls. So i located my team and to my shock our team scored just 57 on 6 overs, Omer was bowling the last over so i sat with fingers crossed, hoping against hope that they should win this. Omer bowled 2 wide balls and took a wicket on those last four balls but we sadly lost the match, we were out of the tournament as it was knock out system.

Captain was very angry and disappointed, Ahsan got the title of our Misba-ul-Haq, our GM arrived after the match and our Team leader was not there, none of the Engineers or assistants came so no attention from our seniors again.

GM posted on FB "We Lost the very first knock out match n now trying to find justifications which is obviously a funny stuff :)"  M. Akmal Javed.

"Three Cups of Tea" Greg Mortenson

written by Greg Mortenson, the high-profile advocate of girls' education in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations ... One School at a Time

"It's a beautiful story, and it's a lie," Krakauer, Mortenson is facing serious allegations on his charity work and his falsified stories about Korphe and being abducted by Talibans, Where he is shown in a photograph with the men supposedly to be the Taliban and in another with the same group holding AK-47

Well i think he did tried to climb the Everest and failed, so he thought of writing his expedition but it was not that spicy to attract readers so he thought to add some 'Masala' to the book. He is not a good lier but he did managed to get a handsome revenue out of the book yet failed to hide the loose ends properly.

We should not forget here that he did build some of the schools in Waziristan and Afganistan though he lied about the quantity. My guess is he did it to get more charity money for the C. He is using the charity money for his own travel and book promotions and yes he give a bit to the schools once a year or so.

At the end i would say that if he hadn't lied about all this he won't be able to get this much public fame and obviously charity money.

Historical view of Mai's Case

Mukhtaran Mai :
A resident in the southern Punjab village of Meerwala in Pakistan. At the age of 30, in 2002 she was raped by four men. In order to set his 12 year old brother, Shakoor free.

At that time when i heard the story i was pretty shocked and all sympatheis were with her. Eventually they went away as she became a sexually abused trade mark of Pakistan, and Pakistan's repute was at stake.Media played a vital role in propagating it and yes our NGO's were always there.

Now lets see the case which took almost a decade to solve and only one man out of alleged 14, was convicted.

On 22 June,2002 Shakoor was abducted by three Mastoi men. He was taken to Naseem's house, with whom he supposedly had sex. Naseem's brother Abdul Khaliq rejected to hand him over to his family, instead  handed him over to police. Mai's family tried to settle the dispute by offering some land to Naseem's family, by marring Naseem with Shakoor and Mai with one of their man. Mastoi's wanted revenge on the principle of "eye for an eye", so they accepted the offer and asked Mai herself to come and apologize from Naseem's family. Mai went thier with her Father and uncle, dispute was resolved and settled. suddenly Abdul Khaliq pulled out his revolver and forced Mai to enter a stable near by where she was raped by four men, then paraded in the village naked. Her father covered her up and took her home. No report was filed, but her brother was released as the dispute was setteled.

In regular Friday sermon, Khatib told the whole village to ask for mercy from ALLAH, as a very sinful incident has taken place, luckily a reporter from near by village heard it and published it in press. It was immediatle picked up by international media, and the case is registered against 14 people on 30 June, 2002.

Trial went in prosses and court, on 31 August, 2002 gives the verdict. Sentencing six men to death. Four involved directly in rape, two for being the part of the Panchayat and giving orders, rest of the eight are freed. Mai's response to this verdict "i am satisfied with the verdict".

Mukhtar Mai file separate appeals in the Multan bench of the Lahore high court against the acquittal of the eight men set free on 3 September, 2002The Multan bench of the Lahore High Court reverses the trial court's judgment on the basis of "insufficient evidence" and "faulty investigations"on 3 March, 2005. The court acquits five of the six while the death sentence of the sixth is turned into life imprisonment. The court orders the release of the five acquitted.

Ms Mai writes to the government saying she fears for her life if those acquitted are released. Human Rights group hold rallies in various Pakistani cities protesting against the acquittals. Pakistan's highest Islamic court, the Sharia court, suspends the Lahore High Court's acquittal of the five men on 11 March, 2005
The court rules that the Lahore High Court does not have the jurisdiction to hear appeals in cases tried under Islamic laws. The Sharia court decides to hear the case itself.

Now Supreme Court Jumps in to save LHC and decides to hear the final appeal of the case.
Four of the five acquitted in Ms Mai's case are released by the orders of the Supreme Court on

15 March, 2005Ms Mai appeals to President Musharraf to order the re-arrest of the four men released saying she fears for her life 17 March, 2005. The five men released earlier are re-arrested along with the eight others who had been found not guilty at the original trial in 2002, on 18 March, 2005. On the orders of Punjab Government for 90 day detention. Mukhtar Mai files an appeal in the Supreme court against the acquittal of five men sentenced to death by the Supreme court on 26 March, 2005. The Supreme Court says it will start hearing Ms Mai's appeal against acquittals on 27 June and Court suspended the acquittals of the five men convicted. It orders that they and eight others found not guilty at the original trial be held pending retrial.

Then case continued from year after years and we ended up in 2011 where on 19 April a verdict from SC comes out, four out of five men are freed and Abdul Khaliq is sentenced to 10 yrs.

"In view of the majority decision, all the noted appeals are hereby dismissed. The suo moto action initiated by this Court vide order dated 14.3.2005 in the matter is also discharged. Therefore, all those who were arrested pursuant to the order of this Court dated 28.6.2005 if not required in any other case be eleased forthwith. Abdul Khaliq, however shall be released after serving his sentence as awarded to him by the earned High Court, the benefit of Section 382 Criminal Procedure Code extended to him by that Court is also maintained."

We fought for this Judicial system and we stood by it, now we are again going to stand against it. I think we should accept the verdict and move on.
